Noted Environmentalist and Chipko Movement Pioneer Sunderlal Bahuguna, aged 94, dies in All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Rishikesh, after a long battle against COVID-19. Bahuguna was admitted to the hospital on May 8th, for the treatment against the virus, after noting fluctuation in his oxygen level. Reports claims, he had been critical since last night with his oxygen level dropping drastically, and was on CPAP therapy in the ICU of the premier hospital. AIIMS Director Ravikant says he took his last breath at 12:05 PM, in the hospital.
Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat, while offering his condolences says it is a big loss for the entire world and not just Uttarakhand or India. He quotes him as “It was he who made the Chipko movement a movement of the masses.”
