2018 World Cup: When is it, where is it, and how do England qualify?
It is only just over a year to go until football’s greatest showpiece takes place in Russia – but there is still plenty of time for speculation about when and where tickets and memorabilia might be available.
The draw for the tournament in Group A will take place on Friday, 8 January in Moscow.
The draw took place at the Kremlin two years ago. The Russians will be looking to make it three consecutive tournaments in which they will play in the same city
How do you secure tickets for the tournament?
Russian passports for 2018 are valid for 12 months, and the qualifying process to get tickets is covered by automatic access for certain Russian citizens and long-term Russian residency.
However, there are restrictions in place, and should you come from another country that forbids citizens from travelling to Russia, you are ineligible to buy tickets.
To obtain a ticket, or obtain a ticket to any Fifa event, you must apply online via the Fifa website – information on the application process and how to get an automatic ticket can be found here.
Fifa confirm that the entry code you receive will be valid for 12 months following the specific date of the draw.
A ticket is only valid for the opening ceremony and matchday one – if the draw is on 23 December, the opening ceremony is on 27 December and the match is on 30 December you could then switch the ticket to the final.
All tickets to see the final are sold through the official Fifa distribution centres – London, Vienna, Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, Rome, Istanbul, and Dortmund.
The appointment for the draw and immediately after it is live on the Fifa website.
When are the teams playing?
The tournament begins on 14 June, 2018, when hosts Russia take on Saudi Arabia.
England were drawn in Group G, with Colombia, Senegal and Japan, and are hoping to progress out of the group stage for the first time since 1990.
