Just a few weeks ago, Adele was having an all-time-great year. With her third studio album, “25,” on course to be the biggest-selling album of the year, everything seemed to be going Adele’s way. But right when she seemed to be taking the lead in the pop charts and breezing through awards shows, there came word that she had separated from her husband Simon Konecki. On “The Late Late Show” last night, Adele appeared to be in a state of not just unhappiness, but total panic and raw anxiety.

Cue a couple of utterly sweet shout-outs to her former husband and love of her life, describing the idea that their son would spend the first night away from the kid, who’s not even old enough to go out of his house or drive without supervision, by the way.

That’s when her boyfriend, Jeremy Scott, pop up in his rich white gold-plated Big Apple fashion suit and headband. He wants Adele to know that she’s going to be a great mother. She also wants to make sure Scott knows she’s divorced from Simon.

So Adele tells him that she’s sure she’s going to write a music about it, that it’s going to be about him. Does the idea creep into her mind? Of course it does. She says so twice in the course of a day.

It turns out the relationship between Adele and Konecki ended this past June, and that’s what “One of Those Nights” means. Her record about it won’t be about her being single, or being sorry to not have a partner anymore or what that makes her do. She’s going to write a song about it that is…breath of fresh air? Is there hope for an even better future?
