New York launches program to vaccinate children and adults against flu

New York State health officials announced today that Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo will open eight new vaccination sites throughout New York on Saturday for children 5 and older.

“The reason these new sites are open is because we want to make sure no child is left behind in the fight against the flu,” Governor Cuomo said. “I want New Yorkers to know that our fight to protect the health of our children is real and we’re not going to rest until we have eliminated the flu from our community. This year, New York has the strongest flu vaccine in the nation.”

“This action is an important step in protecting children from the flu and will help eliminate the need for parents to rely on home remedies and private clinics,” said New York State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker. “A year ago, New York moved from the center of the influenza vaccine supply to the center of the influenza vaccine demand, indicating increased demand for the flu vaccine. Today’s announcement continues this progress as New York moves closer to meeting the needs of its children with the flu vaccine.”

The new vaccination sites will be open Saturday, June 23, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and are located at the following locations:

Central New York:

Thomas R. Hogan 522 Page Boulevard Syracuse, NY 13202

Syracuse, NY 13202 Center for Infectious Disease, Inc., 1101 East Fayette Street, Syracuse, NY 13202

Syracuse, NY 13202 International Inn, 3114 Manlius Street, Syracuse, NY 13202

Syracuse, NY 13202 Destiny USA, 2455 East Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY 13202

Upstate New York:

NYS Health Department: Erie County Department of Health Office of Public Health, 700 Franklin Street, Buffalo, NY 14202

NYS Health Department: Hudson Valley Community Healthcare (HVCH), 6000 Route 9 South, Hackettstown, NJ 08097

New York State Health Department: New York State Medical Center, located at 1375 Northern Blvd., Bronx, NY 10459

Following the closure of the six vaccination sites from last week due to flu-related illness, Governor Cuomo set up vaccination centers in the following locations:

Central New York:

Monroe County Public Health: Chambers Clinic, 128 Clarion Square East, Oneonta, NY 13460

Franklin County Public Health: One Galloway Plaza, Aurora, NY 13430

Queens County Public Health: Marshall Lane Center for Health, 112 Marshall Lane, Flushing, NY 11374

Westchester County Public Health: Fitness Partners, 650 East Mill River Road, White Plains, NY 10605

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently reported that New York is one of six states that receive more influenza vaccine than any other state in the nation. Today’s announcement marks a new effort to increase vaccination rates in New York to protect New Yorkers’ health and that of our local communities.
