At the heart of this, Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon delivers a speech:

“I am delighted to launch this initiative. Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of my Government setting out the Climate Change Plan. It is an ambitious plan, it is ambitious because we understand the scale of the challenge ahead. We also recognise that change won’t happen overnight. The plan in September 2010 was just 571 pages. Four years on it’s an executive summary in three minutes flat. And there is much more to come. This is a plan that has a time horizon of at least a decade and ideally far longer.

“The plan we launched today will help us get there. And it needs your support. No one can deliver climate change by themselves. There are huge challenges ahead, including how we protect human rights whilst fighting the greatest environmental emergency of our generation. There are opportunities as well. We are a small country on the front line of change and we could lead a change. We could have a real impact on the climate and I am determined that Scotland gets involved in trying to achieve it.

“So, as well as delivering the Climate Change Plan, we will set the targets for a Climate Change Act in the next year. We will also shape the future funding opportunity in the plan. I hope to bring governments from across the globe together to put our climate and people first. These promises are only possible because of the hard work and good faith of groups all across Scotland.”

In addition to the launch of the Climate Promises Made in Glasgow Now website and the Climate Climate Pledge campaign, which will take place tomorrow, 21 October, we will be hosting a number of events around the country. Join our Climate Live platform as we ‘take action’ and launch our Climate Change Plan and Pledge later in the week.

One of these events is a local and regional rally which will take place at noon tomorrow, at Midlothian Collegiate Park, 10th Floor, 11-2 High Street, Edinburgh, with sound and light shows from the University of Edinburgh, Fringe for Sustainability, which will showcase alternative energies.

Keep up with the events of the day using the hashtag #ClimatePromises!

There will also be 5 Scottish sell-out events taking place at these Glasgow organisations, over the following days:

Energy Cadet, Oct 17, 5pm (Elisabethville Community Centre, Derby Street)
