Britney Spears’ Father Jamie to End Conservatorship and Leave Daughter's Life Alone

Britney Spears is finally free.

The singer’s father, Jamie Spears, her conservatorship, which legally kept his daughter’s life in lockstep for the past eight years will officially end on Sunday, after which the mother of two can live in the home she’s owned since 1996.

Spears, 37, will no longer be officially living under her father’s direct supervision, but he will be allowed to visit her in her home every weekend and be involved in the decision-making process about her business.

“Due to the ongoing relationship between Ms. Spears and her father, Jamie Spears will be able to travel to her residences throughout the week to see her without her authorization,” a publicist for the singer said.

Jamie was able to keep the singer on the straight and narrow with the conservatorship, which was taken over in 2008 in the wake of her family-involved breakdown and subsequent struggles with her drug and alcohol use. It was so successful that the star was declared drug-free in 2010.

Spears has since returned to work and issued the news of her re-emergence to her fans with the simple line: “It’s Britney, bitch.”
